Europa und die Logik

Unsere Klassiker langweilen uns allzu oft hier in Europa. Sieht man sie aber in einem außereuropäischen Zusammenhang, strömen sie den Duft von Gefahr und Kampf aus:

Die Rede ist von Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Mary Wakefield hat mit ihr in London gesprochen und unter dem Titel »We are at war with Islam« am 28. November einen Bericht darüber im Spectator veröffentlicht. Im Wirken von Ayaan Hirsi Ali scheint der alte Kampf der Aufklärung gegen die Unvernunft neues Leben zu gewinnen:

[...] she is out to protect Muslims from submission to unreason. When she speaks of a ‘war against Islam’, she’s thinking not of armies of insurgents, but of an ideological virus, in the same way a doctor might talk of the battle against typhoid. ‘Yes, I am at war with Islam,’ she says, as she gets up to leave, ‘but I am not at war with Muslims.’
