Atombomben waren die Waffen der Reichen und werden nun die Waffen der Armen. William Langewiesche hat den Gang dieser Entwicklung in dem kürzlich erschienen The Atomic Bazaar. The Rise of the Nuclear Poor nachgezeichnet. Jonathan Raban hat das Buch im International Herald Tribune vom 19./20. Mai besprochen und darin eine »one-sentence bomb« gefunden, die sich auf die Atombombenabwürfe von Hiroshima und Nagasaki bezieht:

The intent was to terrorize a nation to the maximum extent, and there is nothing like nuking civilians to achieve that effect.

Warum ist das für Raban eine Bombe?

There's no missing the incendiary effect of the word »terrorize,« slyly linking the American attacks on Japanese cities in 1945 and Al Qaeda's attacks on New York and the Pentagon in 2001.
